At Koko Genetics, we offer one of the most comprehensive pet DNA tests on the market at a very accessible price. Our goal is for you to receive a large amount of biological data in an orderly, easily understandable way and with high preventive value, while always remaining fully transparent about the clinical scope of our technology.
What results and reports ARE included in the test?
Depending on the range you choose (Starter or Advanced), your private area will show your results organized into the following categories:
-
Health (Monogenic diseases): With the Advanced DNA test, you will discover if your pet has or is a carrier of any of the genetic diseases we include in the analysis.
-
Physical traits: Both ranges (Starter and Advanced) include the study of physical and physiological characteristics conditioned by their genetics, revealing what makes your animal biologically unique.
-
Breed Analysis: We will study their genetic composition by comparing their DNA with tens of different registered breeds.
-
Educational fact sheets and free updates: Koko's genetic test goes far beyond giving you a simple list of data. We incorporate explanatory fact sheets for every disease, trait, and breed so that you perfectly understand the information and its repercussions. Furthermore, in the future, we will incorporate new features to your profile without you having to pay more or send a new sample.
Conditions and analyses NOT included in our test
It is fundamental to understand that our DNA test is not a clinical diagnostic tool. If your primary goal is to diagnose a specific genetic disease—especially if there is a family history or it is a very common pathology in their breed—you should consult a veterinary professional to ensure you perform the most appropriate clinical test for their personal situation.
On a technical level, our analysis presents the following methodological characteristics and limitations:
-
Genotyping-based analysis (SNPs): The technology Koko uses is based on the analysis of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs). This technique does not perform full sequencing, so it is not designed to identify all the variants present in a gene, although it does manage to analyze a large percentage of the most important variants for the pet's health.
-
Unanalyzed chromosomal alterations: Currently, Koko does not analyze duplications or deletions of complete genes, nor chromosomal rearrangements, translocations, or mosaicisms. We also do not analyze trisomies or other aneuploidies or nullisomies. However, science advances quickly, and it is likely that we will be able to incorporate some of these capabilities in the future.
