Is the Koko Genetics DNA test valid as legal evidence?

No. Although our genetic analyses are extremely precise and have the highest scientific rigor on the market, the results obtained through the Koko Genetics DNA test do not have legal validity to be presented in court, legal disputes, or official administrative procedures.

The main reason for this limitation does not lie in the reliability of our laboratory technology, but in the logistics and sample collection process:

  • Absence of a chain of custody: For a DNA analysis to be admitted as legal evidence in any procedure, the collection of the biological sample must be supervised, identified, and certified by an independent and impartial professional (such as a veterinarian or a legal expert) acting as an eyewitness.

  • Impossibility to certify identity: Since our kit is designed for you to collect the sample comfortably at home, from the laboratory we have no way to legally confirm that the saliva received undoubtedly belongs to the specific dog or cat you indicated during your online registration.

Therefore, our genetic tests are designed for a strictly informational, preventive, and personal purpose. They are an excellent tool to deeply understand your pet's health, breeds, and physical traits, but they are not authorized to resolve legal conflicts or issue official certificates.
