Your pet's genome: an immense ladder of information
Within each of the mammalian cells is their genetic material, which stores the unique information that distinguishes them from the rest of the individuals of their species. Imagine this DNA as an immense spiral staircase where some "rungs" give us crucial data, telling us everything from the risk of suffering from different dysplasias to the exact color of their hair.
To give you an idea of the magnitude of this biological information, a dog's genome is made up of 2.4 billion base pairs spread across 39 pairs of chromosomes (sharing, curiously, 5% of its DNA with humans).
How do we analyze this information through our DNA test?

The power of SNPs (Polymorphisms): Throughout a dog's genome, small variations appear approximately every 100-300 bases. These variations are known as SNPs and it is estimated that they constitute up to 90% of all the genomic variations that exist in them. They are the true key to its diversity.

Databases of international prestige: All this genetic information is crossed with public registries of the highest rigor, such as the Dog Biomedical Variant Database Consortium (DBVDC), where the latest advances in biomedicine and veterinary genetics at a global level are collected.

Scientifically validated markers: In our DNA test we include the analysis of tens of thousands of markers widely present in scientific literature. At Koko we work with thousands of SNPs registered in these databases, including in your results only and exclusively those that have been validated by articles of high scientific impact.
