By taking the Koko Genetics DNA test, our analysis allows you to travel back in time to discover the ancestry of your dog or cat in detail. Today, our family tree tool traces your pet's genetic heritage back to the third generation, reconstructing its history in what is called the straight ascending line in genealogy.
This means that we study and represent both paternal and maternal lineage to show you a total of 14 direct ancestors from your furry companion:
-
2 direct parents (first generation).
-
4 grandparents (second generation).
-
8 great-grandparents (third generation).
How are parents identified in the report?
It is important to mention that, in the genetic breakdown, we do not make an explicit gender distinction (i.e., we do not use the labels “father” and “mother”). Instead, the family tree is structured by referring to them precisely and neutrally as Progenitor 1 and Progenitor 2.
From each of these two parents, the family branches corresponding to their own lineages are displayed, showing you the races present in their grandparents and great-grandparents. Knowing this pedigree depth will help you understand where your pet's genetics, physical traits, and unique personality come from.
