We understand the excitement of discovering your furry companion's biological family. If upon reviewing the results of your dog or cat DNA test the DNA Connect section appears empty, or if you notice that we show you fewer matches compared to other companies, it is due to our strict standards of scientific quality, privacy, and processing times.
For you to be able to view a genetic relative in your account, the following factors must be met:
-
Processing times (Give us a few days!): Unlike the breed or health results, the DNA Connect section requires additional time to track our database and cross-reference your pet's samples with those of the rest of the users. We advise you to wait between 5 and 6 days after receiving your results. If we detect a new relative, our application will send you an automatic email to notify you.
-
Privacy and explicit consent: Guaranteeing the security of genetic data is our priority. For a relative to appear on your list, that other pet must have taken the Koko Genetics DNA test and their guardian must have given explicit consent to participate in the DNA Connect program. If after waiting the indicated time no one appears, it means that their relatives have not yet been tested with us or have preferred to keep their profile private.
-
Scientific accuracy over quantity: Our approach is based on offering you reliable results, not inflating the lists. In the animal world, especially in purebred pets, it is very common to find high percentages of shared DNA between individuals who are not actually direct relatives. To avoid confusion, at Koko Genetics we are extremely cautious in our analyses and limit the kinship shown: we will only offer you results that we are completely sure of.
Our feline and canine DNA database grows every day. If you don't find their parents or siblings today, don't be discouraged! As more families test their pets and join DNA Connect, you will have more chances of receiving that exciting notification of a new relative in the future.
