The instructions for correct saliva collection in the pet DNA kits are reflected in the instruction booklet included in the kit that arrives at your home so that you have no doubts at the time of collection.
You can find these instructions in more detail by reading the QR code on the kit brochure or by accessing https://kokogenetics.com/welcome
Before performing the DNA test:
It is necessary that the pet does not eat or drink (not even water) 60 minutes before using the kit.
The end of the swab should not touch any surface before taking the sample.
Keep the sample at room temperature until shipping. Although the sample can tolerate temperatures up to 40º and humidity of 60%, cold and dry conditions help preserve the integrity of the DNA.
Massage the pet's cheeks to stimulate saliva production if necessary.
Do not ingest. Be especially careful that the animal does not swallow the swab. Keep out of reach of children.
During the DNA test:
Step 1: Open the package at the end.
Step 2: Remove the swab from the package, being careful not to touch the white head of the swab with your fingers.
Step 3: Insert the swab into your pet's mouth and rub firmly against the inside of the cheek or under the upper or lower lip. Rub the end of the swab for at least one minute, 60 seconds, being careful not to let the animal eat the cotton or break it off. A longer scraping time increases the chances of success.
Step 4: Store the swab in the drying bag. Insert the white head first without touching any surface so that it remains in the drying area.
Step 5: Fold the drying bag along the fold line, with the clear side facing in. Use the green barcode label provided for sealing.
Step 6: If you have an envelope, place the swab along with the drying bag inside the envelope. If you have a box, put the swab along with the drying bag inside the box.
Step 7: Place the drying bag with the saliva sample in the bags and envelopes prepared for shipping. Finish the registration process and obtain the label for the transportation agency. It is vital to only use labels shipped from Koko Genetics, i.e. do not ship yourself.
Step 8: Take the sample to the shipping point specified in the email you received after registration.
It is important to note that you should not use a cardboard envelope or an additional box for shipping.
